WHAT WE TREAT

What are Cataracts?

At a Glance:

Symptoms: Blurry vision, colors seem faded, trouble seeing at night, double vision, sensitivity to light
Diagnosis: Comprehensive eye exam
Treatment: Z Cataract, RLE

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens - depending on the degree of the cloudiness, a cataract can cause a little blurring or severe loss of vision. They usually form as part of our natural aging process. However, some people can develop cataracts as a result of injury, eye disease, systemic problems (such as diabetes), side effects from certain medications, and in some rare cases, you can be born with them.

While the rate at which a cataract progresses is highly variable, taking medications or limiting your visual activity will not slow down its progression. The only effective treatment at present is microsurgical removal.

What are my treatment options?

There are some home treatments those with cataracts can try such as using anti-glare sunglasses and getting new prescription glasses or contacts. If your cataracts are getting in the way of everyday activities however, you can consider LASIK surgery.
